My name is Betta, I am a visual artist, writer and traveler, currently based at Kulturpark Stolpe, an artist residency close to Berlin.
I am a playful shifter between places and all different kind of worlds and so is my work – I‘ m experienced in various media, with a strong focus on collaging.
The core of my work is formed by connecting with the body, observing, collecting, dealing with irreversible choices, finding the missing links in new combinations and being surprised by the beauty of coincidence. Therefor I am drawn to all kinds of analog media, and am especially experienced in the fields of classical collaging with paper, books, photography and drawing. In the last two years I have expanded my practice with engagement in the fields of dance, poetry, and graphic design.
My work is based in and supported by a B.A. in Sociology, a wide range of visual vocabulary through my years of working in sceneography at Theater Bremen, my experiences of being one of the directors in the collectively managed culture center Kukoon, and an ongoing political activism and interest in the field of queer feminism.
Among others my work was exhibited and sold in Gängeviertel and Haus 73 in Hamburg, PourPour Bremen, Tokonoma Kassel and at Leipziger Buchmesse. I published several Zines, worked as an illustrator for tierindirmagazin and created artworks for albums of the musicians kalmenrossbreiten and Fabian Ristau.
Since Septmeber 2017 I am a student in visual communication at Kunsthochschule Kassel in the class ‘Redaktionelles Gestalten’ lead by Gabriele Franziska Götz.
Forming a collective with the choreographer and dancer Kai Evans, I am recently working on The Poem Library, a vivid experimental archive for poetry, which combines the fields of writing, visual arts and dance in a practice of creating and sharing tools, reclaiming public spaces and nourishing self expression in connection with others.
Funded by Fonds der Darstellenden Künste e.V., Kai Evans and me are furthermore working in cooperation on the dancing project Common Splace. The project is focusing on connecting to the body as a container and doorway to our (collective) inner stories, exploring ways of translating those into verbal speech, movement and artefactual imprints of our experience, for to be shared with others.
Let’s get intouch.
